MEDICAL ALERT ASSISTANCE DOGS
Medical Alert Assistance Dogs can detect minute changes in an individual’s personal odour which is triggered by their medical condition and alert them to an impending medical event, helping them manage complex life-threatening or life-limiting medical conditions and improve confidence and independence.
They may be able to help if you have:
- A chronic medical condition that has frequent acute or sudden episodes with little or no signs of warning that can be either prevented or its severity reduced by knowing it is about to happen
- These episodes occur frequently
- If left untreated these episodes may result in injury, an ambulance call or admission to hospital or be life-threatening
- Have tried and are compliant with all the current management strategies available within the NHS.
CANCER & BIO DETECTION DOGS

The dog’s nose is the most sophisticated biosensor on the planet and is capable of detecting odour far beyond human and technological capacity.
Dogs have approximately 300 million scent receptors in their noses, compared to around 5 to 6 million in humans.
Dogs have the ability to detect tiny traces of odour down to parts per trillion; the equivalent of a teaspoon of sugar diluted in two Olympic-sized swimming pools of water.
In addition, they can also isolate an odour amongst background odours of other, similar diseases.
Their pioneering work is focused on how their highly trained Cancer and Bio Detection dogs could help expand the world of diagnosis through the recognition of volatile patterns associated with disease.
They have trained dogs to detect 9 different diseases including Cancers, Malaria and Parkinson’s disease.
They have discovered that dogs can help with many medical conditions and diseases.
As they gain more knowledge and experience, they believe that there may be body odour changes that a dog can smell for many different conditions that can cause an emergency or acute episode.
To date they have trained dogs to assist with medical conditions such as:
- PoTS and other cardiac arrythmia’s
- Addison’s disease and other types of adrenal insufficiency
- MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome)
- Non-epileptic seizures
- Low blood glucose levels
- Severe allergies
