The West Berkshire Museum is nestled in two of Newbury’s favourite historic buildings – the charming 17th century Cloth Hall and the delightful old Granary/Corn Stores by the Wharf.

Their permanent exhibition is a journey through the rich tapestry of West Berkshire’s history.

From the ancient rocks beneath us to the intriguing stories of those who shaped our community— from early ancestors to local legends like Jack of Newbury, right up to our contemporary families—they’ve all contributed to the towns, villages, roads, canals, fields, farms, industries, pastimes, and organizations that thrive today.

They invite you to visit us free of charge, and while donations are appreciated, they help us purchase new items for their displays, maintain their buildings, and care for their collections.

Don’t forget to check out their second-floor galleries, where they host a variety of special exhibitions.

Plus, Gallery 5 is available for hire if you want to showcase original artwork, sculpture, or crafts.

They also have a fantastic year-round program filled with talks and family-friendly activities—be sure to visit What’s On for all event listings!
