The Watership Down Inn, at Whitchurch, nestles at the foot of  the North Wessex Downs, overlooking the head waters of the Test Valley.  

The renowned Watership Down lies to the north of the Inn.

 Ideally situated in Freefolk Priors just outside Whitchurch it is within easy reach of Basingstoke, Andover, Newbury and Winchester.  

The M3, A34 and A303 are easily accessed making it the perfect location to meet friends and family.

They are also situated just a stones throw away from the Home of Bombay Sapphire Gin where you can go behind the doors of the famous distillery and uncover the care, skill and artistry behind every drop of the Gin. 

The country style interior features oak and quarry tile flooring, wood burner and hardwood bar. 

The pub dates back to the 1800s’ formerly called the Freefolk Arms, it then changed to the Jerry before becoming the Watership Down. 

The Watership Down is open throughout the week serving delicious lunch and dinner every day, with the exception of Sunday evening.  

They offer a wide selection of local real ales and wines to complement your meal.

They also provide 7 stunning bedrooms, 6 double/twin and 1 family room.

These are situated across the original Inn and in an annexe in the gardens.

Your dogs are very welcome, both in the bar and in the garden bedrooms.

They just ask that they remain on the lead while in the bar area.

All their food is prepared and cooked from the freshest produce, there may be some changes to the menu on the daily basis due to the availability of ingredients.

They pride themselves on working with the freshest and best quality ingredients, locally sourced where possible.  

The restaurant is very popular and to ensure that they are able to serve all their guests they are currently only taking table bookings for up to 6 people and operating a strict 10-minute booking policy.

Their food is complemented by a carefully chosen wine list of over 25 wines from around the world.

Many of their wines are sourced from individual Domains or vineyards, offering an eclectic selection.

They offer up to 10 wines by the glass.

 The Watership Down is proud of its reputation for selling quality locally brewed real ales.

They offer a choice of lagers and ciders. 

Some of the local breweries that provide them with ales include Itchen Valley, Triple fff Hop Back, West Berks, Cheriton.

 

The Inn has a large garden laid down mainly to grass lawns and flower beds.

There are a number of mature beech trees that provide welcome shade on those hot, sunny days.

They have a large stretch tent in the garden, with pub benches so you can enjoy your refreshments outside, whatever the weather.

There is a large terrace sun with views over the River Test Valley perfect to enjoy a drink or even a meal on a summer evening.

They have 7 well-appointed bedrooms, 3 rooms upstairs in the original Inn and a further 4 bedrooms in the garden, including a stunning family room (take a virtual tour).

The garden rooms are completely self-contained and quietly nestled on the ground floor within the gardens, carefully designed to complement the beautiful surroundings while bringing a new design.

All their rooms are en-suite and named after characters in the Watership Down novel.

Your dogs are very welcome, both in the bar and in the garden bedrooms.

They just ask that they remain on the lead while in the bar area, please ensure that you book them in when reserving your room, up to 2 dogs are allowed to stay.*

They have parking on-site, plus additional parking is available, at the local nursery just 5 minutes walk.
