Situated high up on the Berkshire Downs adjacent to the famous Ridgeway Path, Bower Farm, the home of Walters Turkeys is a commercial mixed farm run by the Walters Family since 1911.  The farm is leased from Yattendon Estates on a long standing tenancy.  Edward is the fourth generation of the Walters Family to be farming at Bower Farm working alongside his father Phillip who is still actively involved.Bower Farm itself extends to approximately 670 acres, comprising 500 acres of arable crops and 170 acres of permanent pasture for cattle and sheep, a further 300 acres of permanent pasture is leased for grazing.

The Walters family has specialised in Traditional Christmas Turkeys for 50 years. We are a friendly family run business where everyone gets involved.  Up on the Berkshire Downs their turkeys are able to roam in the beautiful countryside.

They are busy getting ourselves ready for another busy Christmas season! The website will be open shortly to take orders for 2021. Don’t panic – They haven’t sold out!

They are very proud of the Free Range Turkeys they produce, they mainly rear bronze feathered birds which have a delicious rich and full flavour. All of their organic turkeys are bronze feathered.   For the traditionalists they produce a small number of white feathered birds, which are equally delicious and tender.

Walters Turkeys belongs to the Traditional Farm Fresh Turkey Association. This guarantees you the finest quality for Christmas.  In addition their organic turkeys are certified by the Soil Association.

Their turkeys are exceptionally good value whilst having very high animal welfare standards, offering the best customer service and most importantly producing the best turkeys around.

The turkey enterprise is now the most significant part of their farming business whilst other livestock on the farm includes sheep, pigs, suckler cows and their calves, and 800 beef cattle mostly bought off local dairy farms and reared by them from young calves.

The arable side of the farm is also very important.  A lot of the crops, mainly wheat, barley and oats are used in their mill and mix to make feed for the turkeys, cattle and pigs.  Bower Farm is part of the Mid Tier Stewardship Scheme, this recognises land of great environmental importance and ensures correct management practices are implemented.  There are two Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) on the farm and two Stone Curlew Plots which are managed in conjunction with the RSPB.

You can order a organic turkeys for delivery on 22nd December. Credited by the Soil Association, our Organic Turkeys are all dry plucked and hand finished. Delivery is £15 (free for orders over £150).
