The Swan is a 17th century former coaching inn in the small rural village lying in the north downs just of the a34 between Didcot and Chieveley.

Most pubs in East Ilsley existed to serve the sheep breeders and traders who crowded into the village for its famous fortnightly sheep fairs.

East Ilsley’s sheep fairs, granted by charter during the reign of Henry III, were second only to Smithfield in size.

The record was 80,000 sheep penned in a single day.

Their Chef sources ingredients as locally as possible to create  amazing dishes for the menu for everyone to enjoy.

They value their four-legged visitors, going out of their way to provide a dog-friendly space where wagging tails are always welcome.

They know that people have diverse dietary requirements. That’s why they offer a choice of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.

Sundays are for enjoying tasty roasts (and plant-based dishes too!).

They believe that communal gatherings are integral for cultivating a strong local community. Their space regularly hosts exciting events, from trivia nights to live music performances. Take a look what’s on the calendar!
