August 12th 2026

On August 12, 2026, a new Moon will cover up to 96% of the Sun.

Just a few hours later, the dazzling Perseid meteor shower will burst into view in clear moonless skies.

Though the UK will miss totality by a few hundred miles, viewers will still enjoy a fantastic sight, with the best partial eclipse happening in the southwest, where more of the Sun will be hidden!

This will be an early evening eclipse for folks in the UK and Ireland, where you can watch the Moon start to glide in front of the Sun around 18:15, local time, with the peak of the eclipse happening about an hour later and the whole show wrapping up shortly after 20:00.
