The George at Upton

The George at Upton is now fully re-open after a £300,000 refurbishment.

Blending the traditional and contemporary, no expense has been spared in delivering a next-level pub, restaurant and garden experience for everyone to enjoy.

Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, The George is conveniently situated on the A417, providing easy access from surrounding villages and wider afield, being less than 5 minutes from the A34 towards Oxford or Newbury.

They are also perfectly placed for walks and cycle routes from around the area, being at the gateway to the North Wessex Downs.

Their business is young and evolving every day, so please keep checking back here and via their social media, and feel free to drop them a line with any comments, suggestions or feedback.

Their friendly team are always here to help.

They offer an exciting blend of seasonal modern, classic traditional dishes, inspired by the cultural melting pot that is British cuisine.

Diners can enjoy the convivial and bustling ambiance of the pub and café, or dine in their brand new restaurant.

Serving breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, and of course Sunday lunch, you’ll never go hungry at The George….

Their small-but-perfectly-formed village store stocks daily staples and local produce they use in our own kitchen, including milk and dairy, bread and pastries, meats, takeaway wine, beer, spirits and soft drinks (at shop prices!), plus chocolate, sweet and savoury snacks and treats.

They also stock a small range of luxury gifts from local companies including Lords Fragrance House in nearby Wallingford, who also provide their in-house scent.

For children, George’s Sweet Shop lets your little ones travel back in time and enjoy a quarter of their favourite penny sweets served from traditional glass jars and weighed on traditional scales, complete with old school paper bag!

They also stock ice lollies and more from the freezer in the summer.

Their beautiful garden comes alive in the spring.

Landscaped with mature olive trees, palms, bamboo, vines, summer perennials, and a kitchen herb garden, at night the garden twinkles with thousands of fairy lights, providing a magical backdrop to your evening.

With its’ own vintage horsebox bar, pouring a wide selection of drinks, including draught Pimms, The Little George is already a local institution, and probably the most well-appointed mini pub in the world, if they say so themselves!

George’s Grill & Pizzeria is another extended horsebox, offering al fresco casual dining, with smash burgers, wood-fired, pizzas, BBQs, spit roasts and much more from our resident and guest chefs.

Two stretch tents provide English weatherproofing, with overall garden capacity for 200+ people, plus a large firepit that comes into its own during cooler summer evenings.

The garden also hosts a stage with full PA system, and they host various live music events throughout the year.

With a kids’ play area, two table tennis tables, their resident chickens and lots of other things to keep your young ones entertained, you can kick back, relax and enjoy the sunshine.

Their garden is also available for private hire, weddings, birthdays, parties and other gatherings, for sole or shared use.

Additional self-contained bathroom and baby changing facilities are available within the garden.
