Thatcham Market invites residents to rediscover their Friday market
Residents who haven’t visited Thatcham Market for a while are being encouraged to take another look this October, as a series of special events highlights the market’s growing range of traders and new offer.
The market has undergone a significant revival in recent months, with a much wider range of traders now attending regularly.
Visitors can browse everything from fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, bread and cakes to gifts, clothing, household products, street food and much more.
Emily Moseley, Place and Projects Manager for Thatcham Town Council, said:
“We’ve worked enormously hard to attract new traders, improve the market offer and create a vibrant weekly market that serves the town.
Now we need residents to come and see it for themselves, so we can grow it even further.
“Markets survive when people use them.
We listened to residents who told us they wanted more choice, and we’ve worked hard to deliver that.
October is the perfect opportunity for anyone who hasn’t visited recently to come and see what’s on offer.
“Your market needs you! Every visit helps support the traders who choose to come to Thatcham, and the more people who use the market, the more attractive it becomes to new traders.”
October will feature three special market events, each offering something different for visitors.
Festival Opening Market – Friday 9 October
The month begins with the Festival Opening Market on Friday 9 October, from 8am to 2pm.
The market will help launch this year’s Thatcham Festival, with festival organisations and special guests joining the regular market line-up. Visitors will have the opportunity to find out more about events taking place across the town, while enjoying the usual selection of local traders.
World Food Day Market – Friday 16 October
On Friday 16 October, the market will celebrate local food and food from around the world with a special World Food Day Market, running from 8am to 2pm.
Alongside the regular Friday traders, visitors can discover a wider selection of food and drink and explore some of the different flavours and food businesses coming to the town.
Halloween Market – Friday 30 October
The month concludes with the Halloween Market on Friday 30 October, from 8am to 2pm, taking place during the school half-term holidays.
Families can enjoy a Halloween trail, face painting, spooky stalls and activities alongside the regular market, making it a chance to combine the weekly shop with some half-term fun.
The Town Council hopes the events will encourage both regular customers and former visitors to rediscover the market and make it part of their Friday routine.
Thatcham Market takes place every Friday from 8am to 2pm on Thatcham Broadway.
