Thames Valley Police Open Day

On 19 September 2026, Thames Valley Police returns with its Thames Valley Police Open Day at the force’s training centre in Sulhamstead, near Reading, RG7 4DX.

The event is a must in many people’s calendars, celebrating life behind the badge and discover the wide range of work carried out across the force.

Covering Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Milton Keynes and Oxfordshire, Thames Valley Police is one of the largest police forces in the country.

Encapsulating what it means to live on the banks of the River Thames, the day offers a packed itinerary.

Highlights include demonstrations from the Mounted Section, featuring police horses and their riders, as well as displays from the Dog Section, where visitors can meet police dogs and their handlers.

Aspiring detectives can put their investigative skills to the test with Major Crime, while those interested in the history of policing can explore exhibits at the Thames Valley Police Museum.

Whatever your connection to the Thames Valley and the police force that serves it, everyone is invited, says Deputy Chief Constable Ben Snuggs.

You can expect to see a wide range of different displays, activities and stalls in what promises to be a fun day for all the family.

They are proud of the service they provide and look forward to spending an enjoyable day together.

Dozens of exhibits will be on show from across the force, alongside family friendly activities.

People can also access first-hand insight on what it means to work for Thames Valley Police, for those who may be curious about a career in the best of modern day policing.

The extensive grounds at Sulhamstead offer a unique spot for a picnic, as well as one of the rare saplings from the felled Sycamore Gap tree, which is growing well with its full summer greenery.

So, take your picnic blanket – and join in the fun!

They’ll also have a recruitment stand on site, where you can explore career, staff, and volunteering opportunities within the force.

Notes for visitors

• Event runs from 10am – 4pm – Entrance to the site is free and last entry will be 3.30pm for a 4pm event close.
• Bags will be permitted on site but should be no bigger than A4 size.
• Assistance dogs are welcome. Unfortunately, other dogs are not permitted on site and will be refused entry. Dogs must not be left in vehicles.
• A selection of food and drink will be able for purchase (card payments only). Visitors are also welcome to bring their own picnic.
• Water refill stations will be available.
• Free parking is available on site. Due to the size of the venue, disabled parking spaces are limited and visitors should expect up to a five-minute walk from parking areas to the main event.

Thames Valley Museum

Thames Valley Police has a small museum at Sulhamstead House, at the Thames Valley Police training centre in Sulhamstead.

It includes displays on the history of Thames Valley Police and the five police forces that merged to form it: Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxford City, Oxfordshire and Reading Borough.

The museum’s collections include items from the Great Train Robbery of 1963, uniforms, equipment, medals, scenes of crime evidence, and Amelia Dyer.
