Swifts in Newbury
26th June 2026
A talk and walk by local bird expert, Ailsa Claybourn, about these amazing birds who are disappearing from our skies, and how we can help them.
Did you know they live almost entirely aerial lives, fly up to 2 million miles in an average lifetime, sleep with only half their brain at a time and bathe by flying through rain?
After a talk inside the Museum, Ailsa will take us to see swifts and their nest sites in a walk from West Berkshire Museum, along the canal and back through Westfields.
1.5 hour talk (6.30pm to approx. 8pm) before a 45-60 minute walk.
This talk and walk are in support of Swift Awareness Week 2026.
Friday 26 June | 6.30pm – 9pm | West Berkshire Museum | £5
Please note: There will be no access to the Museum during or after the walk.
