Shaw House Discovery Days
24th May 25th May 2026
-Join them for the Shaw House Discovery Days where you will have the opportunity to access many areas of the House which are not usually open to the public, including the ‘Forbidden Corridor’ on the second floor and the basement tunnel running along the length of the House and the Elizabethan bake house.
The bake house was discovered during restoration and is one of the very special features of Shaw House.
Public access is not usually possible due to its location below the café but during the open days you will have the chance to climb below the ground floor and discover the well preserved elements of the 16th century kitchen.
There will be free introductory talks about the history of the House in the Great Hall throughout the day (no need to book).
Please note that the café service will run as usual on these days and alternative areas for seating will be provided.
The bake house viewings must be pre-booked online and spaces will be limited.
Access is via a descending fixed ladder which has a handrail on both sides.
Anyone booking to visit the bake house must be physically capable of completing this manoeuvre as there is no alternative entry/exit.
Please note: there will be fees in place to visit other exhibitions in the House, these can be booked at reception on the day.
