Seagrass Footstool Weaving with Felicity Tran
Seagrass Footstool Weaving
Seagrass Footstool Weaving
Join Felicity Tran, traditional upholsterer and seat weaver, for a one-day Seagrass Footstool Weaving workshop to learn this beautiful heritage craft.

With detailed, step-by-step guidance, this hands-on workshop offers the chance to learn a traditional skill, while creating a practical, enduring piece of furniture to take home and treasure at the end of the day.

What to expect:

Throughout the workshop, Felicity will teach you to weave the ‘basket weave’ pattern, using sustainable seagrass cord on a specially made solid wood footstool frame.

Felicity’s teaching style is friendly, informal and highly attentive, with a focus on enjoyment and productivity.

You’ll feel an immense sense of achievement when you take home your completed handcrafted footstool to treasure forever.

The workshop is hands on with a clear demonstration of each step from Felicity, as well as constant assistance whenever needed thought-out.

They will begin at 10am with a half hour lunch break at 1pm, finishing at 4pm.

What to bring / wear:

All materials will be provided to complete your footstool.

Please wear covered shoes.

The workshop is not suitable if you suffer badly with arthritis in your hands.

Benefits:

This is an ancient craft, which can be replicated at home and with alternative materials on most seat or stool frames once the skill is learned.

When you get into the rhythm of weaving with the sustainable seagrass cord on your wooden frame, the craft is mindful and extremely satisfying.

Who is your tutor:

Felicity has been working as a traditional upholsterer, seat weaver and chair caner from her workshop in North Somerset, since 2014, after completing a diploma at the very well renowned Traditional Upholstery Workshop in Carmarthenshire.

Time: 10am – 4pm
