School of Enchantment
Calling all young witches, wizards, and magical creatures… join them as The Shaw House School of Enchantment opens its doors once again for 2026!
Discover your school house, meet new friends as you undertake a quest through the grounds, create spooky crafts in the Great Hall and test your magic skills with family friendly games.
Plus, trick or treating and a spellbinding story time to round up the evening.
The Witches’ Brew Café and the Shiny Cauldron will be open selling spooky snacks and wickedly tasty treats.
Please wear your finest fancy dress and bring a torch!
A family friendly event, suitable for ages from 4 years.
This is a ticket only event, book early to avoid disappointment.
An adult must remain with the child at all times.
Shaw House | Saturday 31 October | Doors open 6pm. Event: 6.20pm – 8.30pm | £8 per child.
Each child ticket includes one accompanying adult free.
Additional adults £2 each.
Shaw House
Often described as a hidden gem, they are located in tranquil surroundings on the north edge of Newbury.
A Grade I listed multi-purpose event venue which is also open for the public to explore during school holidays and at weekends between February and September every year.
Enjoy a visit where you can explore the history of the House and those that lived here in their exhibition rooms plus four beautifully recreated period rooms; the Tudor Oak Room, Queen Anne Drawing Room, Georgian Parlour and an Edwardian Bedroom.
They also have a special exhibition ‘Dressed for Battle’ displaying English Civil War arms and armour on loan from Littlecote House, and their ‘Dressed for Shaw’ display with replica costumes highlighting the changing fashions through time.

They have six bright, historic rooms for hire which are ideal for meetings, presentations, product launches and more — all set-in peaceful surroundings just minutes from the M4/A34, it’s an ideal setting to bring teams together away from the noise and distractions of the office.
