- Goring Cruise
- Pangbourne Cream Tea Cruise
Spend the early afternoon gliding along the River Thames on a new cruise from Goring Lock, heading upstream (in the direction of Oxford) and passing through Cleeve Lock.
This trip sails through really rather hidden Thames beauty, giving a unique perspective on reaches of the river that are idyllic, unspoilt and off the beaten track.
This cruise will last approximately 2 hours and recreates one of the more traditional ways to spend an afternoon on the river, harking back to Victorian and Edwardian times.
Travelling through stunning Thames countryside that has changed little with the passage of time, away from the rush of daily life and an opportunity to visit a stretch of the Thames less visited.
After leaving picture-postcard Goring (opposite the equally perfect Streatley) we will cruise up-river to Cleeve lock, itself somewhat hidden and then steam on, following the sweeping turns of the Thames passing the Withymead Nature Reserve, turning before Moulsford.
This round trip will then retrace its steps providing vistas back towards the riverside villages as you explore the Thames.
This cruises lasts 2hours and the distance travelled upstream will depend on how long it takes to transit each lock.
Departing at 1315 and returning at 1515.
There will be a full bar with hot and cold drinks onboard with reserved table and steward service.
DEPARTING FROM THE DOWNSTREAM SIDE OF GORING LOCK AT 13.15.
Departing from Caversham Pier this round trip cruise, with reserved table, steward service and cream tea, soon leaves the riverside homes of Caversham behind.
Entering open countryside passing islands before arriving at Mapledurham.
You transit through the lock and onwards to Pangbourne entering a new reach of the Thames.
From Mapledurham you will sail the unspoilt reach to Pangbourne Meadows turning just before Whitchurch Toll Bridge (which makes a good photo opportunity as it spans the river).
From your reserved table or out on the foredeck there are great river views, the excitement of passing through a lock both up and downstream and glimpses of large manor houses.
They travel through two quite different and interesting reaches with ever-changing entertainment on the river.
The steward and crew will serve cream tea which includes scones, Cornish clotted cream and jam*.
Don’t feel compelled to stay inside take the air on the foredeck and snap away with your camera out the window.
The cruise departs Caversham Pier at 1400 and returns around 1700
*Their scones are baked fresh in an artisan bakery where nuts may be present thus we can not be 100% sure that no contact with nuts has taken place.
