A Facebook group dedicated to legends of Reading Football Club is celebrating reaching 1,000 members with a series of video chats with former players and managers.

The ‘Reading FC Legends’ group on Facebook achieved the 1,000 member landmark on April 1.

The group was set up by Royals fan Mark Roach, who is the former host of the popular 1871 Podcast and son of former club director Brian Roach, who passed away in 2022.

Mark has previously hosted live Q&A events at the Purple Turtle in Gun Street with Reading legends including Steve Coppell, Jimmy Quinn, Adam Le Fondre, Jem Karacan, Glen Little, Nicky Shorey and Leroy Lita.

The Reading FC Legends Facebook group focuses on club legends and significant moments in Reading FC’s history.

Former Reading winger John Salako kicked off the new series of video chats with club legends, looking back on the 2001-2 season – which saw Reading secure automatic promotion on the final day of the season thanks to Jamie Cureton’s late equaliser at Brentford.

The video series looks back at successful seasons in the club’s history.

Other guests in the series include former Reading manager Brian McDermott and former players Glen Little, Jimmy Quinn, Stuart Lovell and Dylan Kerr.

Anyone interested in Reading FC history can find the group by searching for ‘Reading FC Legends’ on Facebook.

Just to add, in case it is of interest…

The Reading FC Legends Facebook group has a number of ex Reading players as members, including the club’s record goalscorer Trevor Senior, former striker turned manager Jimmy Quinn and Brynjar Gunnarsson, who was part of the Reading team that won promotion to the Premier League in 2006.

The 1,000th member of the group is former Reading left back Dave Moreline.

Dave played for Reading from 1974 until 1981, making 192 appearances for the club.

He had joined Reading from Fulham.

He was in the team on that famous night 50 years ago to witness Robin’s wonder goal against Tranmere.

Dave was part of the 1975-76 promotion team and the Reading team that won the Division 4 title in 1978-79 and set a new record for 1,103 minutes without conceding a goal.

He later moved to Rainham in Essex and worked as a postman.
