Reading FC legend Nicky Shorey the special guest at Purple Turtle event
Reading FC legend Nicky Shorey is the guest of honour at a Q&A event at Purple Turtle bar in Reading town centre on Sunday, November 10.
Doors will open at 12pm at the popular venue in Gun Street, Reading, with the event kicking off at 1pm.
Shorey will talk about his time as part of Steve Coppell’s brilliant Championship title winning team that set a new record of 106 points in the 2005-2006 season – and went on to finish eighth in Reading’s first ever season in the Premier League.
Shorey’s performances for Reading earned him a call up for England’s first game at the ‘new’ Wembley Stadium against Brazil, where he lined up for his country alongside the likes of David Beckham, Michael Owen, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, John Terry, Jamie Carragher and Joe Cole.
He was the first man to represent England while playing for Reading for more than 100 years – and also played for Leyton Orient, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Fulham, West Bromwich Albion, Bristol City, Portsmouth, Colchester United, Hungerford Town and Pune City in India.
After reminiscing about his time as a player for Reading and England, Shorey will answer questions from the audience – and there will be an opportunity to meet him afterwards and have a photo taken with him.
Tickets are available at just £12.50 per person for a “Championship” ticket, or £17.50 for a “Premier League” ticket – which guarantees a seat in the front few rows and also guarantees an opportunity to meet Shorey and have a photo taken with him.Â
Tickets are limited and available on a first come first served basis.
Under 18s can attend, if accompanied by an adult. There is parking available nearby in the Holly Brook car park in Bridge Street, Reading.
The event is the first of a series of events featuring Reading FC legends at Purple Turtle, with Adam Le Fondre the confirmed special guest on Sunday, November 17 and Jem Karacan also confirmed for a third event in the series on a date yet to be announced.
Purple Turtle is a popular town centre venue for Reading fans.
It hosted an event with Reading’s manager Ruben Selles in the summer of 2023 and also hosted the launch of Reading’s purple third kit, which was inspired by the venue.
The Gun Street bar was the focus of more attention recently when potential new club owner Rob Couhig was photographed in the venue wearing Reading FC branded kit – only for his bid to buy the club to collapse soon after.
