In the same year, visitors drank roughly 7.4 million litres of specially brewed beer.
It started as a way to celebrate the royal wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen.
The festivities featured a horse race, and following its success, they decided to hold this popular event every year.
Over the years, it blossomed into the vibrant beer and folk festival we know today, complete with beer tents, tasty food, lively music, and thrilling amusement rides.
