“White Hart closed and for sale
The White Hart Inn is to be offered for lease or sale by Colliers, following its recent closure.
Stella Coulthurst, the owner since 2011, says:
“The decision about whether or not to re- open the White Hart Inn in the New Year remains open, and I wait to see how the economy fares in the next couple of months. In the meantime, I have decided to offer the pub for sale (both freehold and lease).
The decision does not mean anything other than that, but if anyone has questions, I am happy to chat, meet, have a coffee Please feel free to email via the website or give me a call.”
The Red Lion at Upper Basildon is set to open under new ownership soon…

The Spare Wheel
As you will have noticed our doors are closed at the moment.
The current cost of living crisis resulting in increased costs (including energy, beer and food ingredients) together with an increasingly difficult labour market has made running two venues in town very difficult.
We are also coming to the end of our current lease.
So for now, while we decided what to do going forward, we have decided to concentrate our efforts on making sure that the Catherine Wheel continues to be the great place it is and will be making improvements to make it even better (if that’s possible) including the addition of the Spare Wheel craft beer fridge!!
We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for your fantastic support over the last couple of years and also thank the fantastic team (who you will still find at The Catherine Wheel) for all of their hard work and devotion to the cause.
While The Spare Wheel in its current format is coming to a close, this will not be the end and just like James Bond, The Spare Wheel will return”
The Red Lion in Upper Basildon
I always believed the existence of a pub is essential in maintaining the social life of a village.
We set out to provide a friendly atmosphere, good service with good food and catering for all ages.
Along with many others we have kept the pub going throughout the past seven years and I would like to thank them for their hard work.
The impact of COVID along with the sharp increase in costs and wages has made it impossible to keep the pub open.
I would like to thank you all for all your support during the past seven years.
I will miss the pub as I imagine you will.
I hope someone will take over this historical pub and maintain the business for us all to enjoy.
Rafi Razzak”
