Newbury District Ornithological Club
The Newbury District Ornithological Club (NDOC) was established in 1959, their aim is to spark a love for birds and all their fascinating behaviours and habitats.
They currently have about 90 members and warmly invite everyone, whether you’re a seasoned expert or just starting out—especially beginners!
Join them at their club events, they’d love to see you there!
Throughout the year, they organise field visits in small, friendly groups to explore local spots in West Berkshire and nearby counties.
Together, they look for specific bird species at their favourite spots and enjoy the wonderful variety of habitats the area has to offer.
They also plan fun day trips and even longer excursions to exciting locations.
In recent years, they’ve enjoyed birdwatching holidays in places like Poland, the Republic of Georgia, and Eastern Turkey.
Their experienced members are always nearby to share tips and assist with identification, and they host regular events specifically to help with things like bird song and wildfowl identification.
In the winter months, they hold cosy evening meetings in Newbury featuring invited speakers—many of whom are renowned ornithologists and photographers—covering various bird-related topics.
They also enjoy occasional social gatherings, where members can relax, chat, and exchange news and ideas with one another.
