NEWBURY AND THATCHAM REPAIR CAFÉ
The Repair Café in Newbury and Thatcham offers Free Repairs and Community Events
They serve Newbury, Thatcham and surrounding villages.
They are a team of volunteers holding events to repair items, thus prolonging the life of the item, reducing waste and saving you money.
At the same time, you can learn about repair skills
Enjoy a cup of tea or coffee whilst at the Repair Café.
Repairs are free, though they appreciate donations to fund further events.
Events are run monthly on the last Sunday of the month, alternating between Newbury Methodist Church Hall and Frank Hutchings Community Hall, Thatcham.
They carry out repairs (if feasible) on:
- Electrical/Electronic items
- Textiles, including clothing and household items
- Ceramics and jewellery
- Small items of furniture and wooden objects
- Other general household, toys and garden items
They also provide IT and mobile phone advice, and sharpen items such as scissors, secateurs, blades and shears.
They try their best to repair as many items as possible – sometimes if they are busy there may be a wait for a suitable repairer to become free.
Please bring 1 item only – it should be clean and light/small enough for 1 person to car.
Some items are not suitable for them to repair, such as microwaves, petrol-driven items or gas appliances.
Even if an item can’t be repaired at the event, they may be able to advise which parts to buy (and to return to the next event) or how to repair at home.
They hope to see you at one of their events!

Skilled volunteers at the Newbury and Thatcham Repair Cafe will do their best to repair items brought in by the local community.
This is about reducing waste but also saving you money.
The repairs are free, but your donations are much appreciated and help to fund future events.
Have a tea or coffee while you wait for a repairer to become available.
On arrival at the Hall, your item should be checked-in inside the Hall.
You will be given a form to record your item and how much it weighs (for calculating how much waste is saved).Â
The Repair Café volunteers can repair electrical items, electronic gadgets, clothing, textiles, soft toys, jewellery, and other portable (by 1 person) household and garden objects.
The repairer will discuss how they are repairing the item with you and in that way pass on the skills to encourage more people to repair their own items in the future.
They can offer the additional services of tool sharpening and advice on mobile phones and IT issues.
Sorry, they cannot repair microwaves, petrol-driven items, or gas appliances for safety reasons.
Even if they can’t repair your item at the event, they may be able to advise you on a part to buy, or a way to repair it yourself at home.
For safety reasons, all electrical items must be PAT tested before and after being repaired.
Please note events are on the last Sunday of the month – Sunday morning in Thatcham and Sunday afternoon in Newbury. Please register your item at Check-in inside the Hall at least 30 minutes before they close to give time for the repair (if feasible) to take place.
