A new big band for enthusiastic amateur musicians in Berkshire has just started rehearsing but is still looking for new recruits to fill the remaining spaces.

Currently working under the title of the West Berkshire Big Band they rehearse in Hamstead Marshall between Hungerford and Newbury every Monday evening playing music from legendary big bands across the years.

“A full complement would involve 5 saxes, 4 trombones and 4 rhythm section members so once up to full strength we really would be a big band” says leader Richard Fairs “but we still have vacancies for key players”.

He is particularly keen to hear from any brass players and a pianist to swell the numbers but a baritone saxophone would also be very welcome!

Any one playing any of those instruments who can read music, play to a reasonable standard and is between the ages of 16 and 106 is welcome.

“The aim of the band is to give musicians the opportunity of playing in a big band and whilst doing so provide an environment when we can improve as musicians and as an ensemble.

The most important thing however is to have fun and enjoy the company of fellow enthusiasts” Richard continues.

Anyone who would like to find out more can visit the band’s website www.westberkshirebigband.co.uk or call Richard on 07710 626704.
