Martin Hicks among ex Reading players to attend reunion event

Legendary former Reading FC captain Martin Hicks is one of the confirmed guests who will attend a reunion event for Reading players who played in the successful ‘Record Breaking Royals’ and Simod Cup winning teams in the 1980s.

The event will take place at the Purple Turtle in Gun Street, Reading on Sunday, April 4.

Hicks is the club’s record appearance maker, with more than 600 appearances for Reading.

He captained the Reading side that won the Division 3 title 40 years ago, after setting a new record of 13 straight wins at the start of the 1985-86 season – a record that still stands.

He is also the only Reading captain to have ever lifted a trophy for the club at Wembley, as the Royals beat Luton 4-1 to win the Simod Cup in 1988.

Players from both teams will be at the Purple Turtle to recall their memories of those two seasons – with Trevor Senior, Kevin Bremner, Michael Gilkes, Steve Wood, Jerry Williams, Steve Richardson, Stuart Beavon and Keith Curle among the other former Reading players that event organiser and host Mark Roach hopes will be in attendance.

There will be a Q&A with the players and a chance to meet them.

Tickets are available for just £5.

The event looks set to be a sell out, as approximately 90 of the maximum 100 tickets available have already been sold or reserved.
