Aldermaston

Lambourn is well known as “The Valley of The Racehorse”.

Lambourn

Welcome to the charming area nestled in the beautiful valley of the Lambourn River, right in the heart of the scenic chalk Berkshire Downs!

A delightful working village, known far and wide for its special charm: the training of racehorses!

The soft, springy downland grass creates the perfect setting for the numerous training gallops that circle the village, and every day, strings of horses make their way to the gallops, being prepared to compete and win at exciting race meetings such as Cheltenham, Aintree, Ascot, and many more.

You’ll find a lovely variety of pubs and shops here, including a local butcher, a chemist, a dentist, and a friendly doctor’s surgery.

There are also several award-winning pubs and restaurants just a stone’s throw away, with even more options available in nearby Wantage, only eight miles away.

Charming Hungerford, situated nine miles to the south, is famous for its unique antiques scene.

The Lambourn Valley is part of the North Wessex Downs AONB, offering wonderful walking routes and bridle paths for everyone to enjoy.

Venture a bit further, and you’ll find a lovely canal leading from the east side of Hungerford towards Hungerford Marsh, a delightful nature reserve filled with the sparkling, clear waters of the River Dunn.

A short stroll over the marsh brings you to Cobbs Farm Shop, a favorite spot for coffee and lunch, and an amazing pick-your-own destination!

Getting around is super easy, with great rail links at Hungerford, Newbury, Swindon, and Didcot.

You can catch direct services from Hungerford to London Paddington in about an hour.

Plus, the M4 Junction is roughly four miles to the south, and you’re just under an hour’s drive from London Heathrow airport.
