Lambourn Carnival
Lambourn Carnival

Every year, the charming village of Lambourn, tucked away in the Valley of the Racehorse in Berkshire, comes alive with the colourful Lambourn Carnival Procession!

This  tradition has been a favourite in their community since the 1930s, inviting both locals and visitors to join in this joyful celebration of creativity, heritage, and togetherness.

The Lambourn Carnival started back in the day when the village wanted a fun escape from daily life.

Those early processions were humble, featuring simple floats and fancy dresses, but as time went on, the carnival transformed into a stunning spectacle!

Local involvement has been key to its success, with racing yards and families coming together to participate, whether that’s by crafting eye-catching floats, putting on costumes, or cheering excitedly from the sidelines.

Looking through photos from the 1930s to now shows how the carnival has grown and changed over the years.

From horse-drawn carriages to modern floats decorated with stunning designs, each celebration captures a moment in Lambourn’s vibrant social and cultural journey.

The carnival is a beautiful testament to their village’s indomitable community spirit.

Usually held during the August Bank Holiday weekend, the procession is a highlight of the bustling Lambourn Carnival & Festival, which features a scarecrow competition, flower shows, and a funfair!

Participants in the procession compete for exciting trophies and prizes, with categories for everything from the best family float to the most imaginative costumes.

Yet, the Lambourn Carnival is more than just a parade; it beautifully reflects their village’s character, deeply connected to its rich history and proud ties to horse racing.

This  event continues to spread joy for everyone involved, drawing in crowds of cheerful spectators to the village streets each year.

As they carry this tradition into 2025 and beyond, the Lambourn Carnival remains a vibrant symbol of local pride and the enchanting spirit of village life!
