Jana's Recycling Journey Through West Berkshire

‘Welcome to the new edition of thisGuest Blog. I am a full-time working mum of 2 boys and a published novelist of ‘The Ninth Cross’ by my pen name J. Karst. I get involved in trying that little bit I can in saving the environment for the future generations.’

The sunshine has abandoned us, with chill entering our houses yet again. April fools’ weather at its best. Hammock had to go inside but will see the outside as soon as the sun returns. At least my hive might stop the urge of swarming. Like I said before, there always is a silver lining.

My best friend who chose me to be her birthing partner is ready to pop. Her waddling has slowed whereas her toilet requirements drastically increased. She is walking, talking whoopee cushion that needs to have a leak at every possible minute. Beside all that she is very pleased that soon she might be able to see her own feet again.

She has done a charity boot sale years ago with me but the more recent boot sale on behalf of ‘The cats protection’ was done with my other friend, Rachel. Only today we returned the borrowed banners/collection box and passed on the cheque. A job well done.

To top it up week after the boot sale an opportunity opened to have a van. My heavily pregnant friend’s husband took a pity on my husband, who had the metal collection collapsing onto him. I jumped at the occasion and last minute loaded the donated metal into the van making sure that my friend’s husband doesn’t see it piled up to the roof. He is very protective of the van interior. Considering that his garage is cleaner than my kitchen, it has a lot to say about the pristine condition his van was in before we loaded it.

We have made it to the Beenham metal recycling scrap yard in time and followed the recommendation of having hi-viz jackets when entering the yard. Overall, for all the metal we got £80 for the Newbury Young People & Children first charity.

It felt good being so productive not to mention that the recycling never stopped raising funds for Canine Partners. When I told my husband that I managed to clear the metal he reacted with a giggle. Surprised at his reaction I asked what the matter was, and he explained.

Apparently, it must have been a sight for a white van rocking up to a scrap yard with two women in the car with a strong eastern European accent. One of them jumping out the van opening the back door revealing up the roof filled van with a heavily pregnant woman waddling out of the driving seat saying, ‘where do you want this off loaded?’…
