Caution with iron as a supplement

Overdosing with iron could cause problems if not carefully monitored and the time is limited.

Long term high dose iron without regular monitoring could increase inflammation, oxidative stress and cell growth.

I use Iron Bisglycinate which is gentler on the gut and has improved absorption.

 I also recommend iron is taken every other day which actually improves uptake.  

Hepcidin is a blocking protein that controls how much iron you absorb.  

When you take iron – Hepcidin rises and can stay elevated the next day, blocking absorption.

Iron absorption also depends on good gut health.

 If there is inflammation in the gut or food intolerances, iron may not get absorbed and show up as low despite an iron rich diet.
