The Hungerford Bookshop can be found in a beautiful listed building at the heart of the historic town of Hungerford. Hungerford is the centre of the North Wessex Downs, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. The  bookshop won a Nibbie for Independent Bookshop of the Year in 2009. In 2019 they scooped Best in Business as well as Best Independent Retailer at the Newbury Weekly News’ business awards. In 2020 they were regionally shortlisted for Independent Bookshop of the year. It’s not hard to understand why……
Owned and run by Emma and Alex, the bookshop team are passionate about books and the importance of independent shops. You won’t experience algorithms here. What they do offer is knowledge, personal recommendations, the chance to hear from the authors themselves and the joyful serendipity of discovering a title you never expected. They work closely with other organisations and schools and believe in playing an active role within the community.
Looking for something different to do this month? What could be more exciting than exploring new ideas and worlds with their creators? At the Hungerford Bookshop, they are believers in opening up book discussion and giving their customers access to the many brilliant authors out there. Take a look at some of the acclaimed writers they have hosted over the years. Their events are always held at one of the fantastic (and often historic) local venues in Hungerford and ticket prices often include money off the title being discussed and a glass (or two) of wine.Â
