The irrepressible Hannah Wicklund performs at Arlington Arts Centre, Newbury on Friday 09 October.
Hannah Wicklund was born in Beaufort, South Carolina in 1997. She grew up on the beaches of Hilton Head Island and began her musical journey early on.
Piano was her first instrument, sitting down to learn Beatles songs and classical pieces starting at just three years old.
Picking up her first guitar at age eight, she started her first band, The Steppin Stones, just six months later as a fearless nine-year-old little girl.
Twenty years later she is an accomplished touring and recording artist, having performed in clubs and arenas alike around the world.
Her visual art has also been a pillar of her career, and at a time when the industry took her music away from her, it was her paintings and art pieces that built her back.
Her newest record War on Women; Calling All Good Men was funded entirely by her artwork amidst her legal battle to get the rights to her catalogue back from an industry that conspired to keep her quiet.
It has not been an easy path for this woman in Rock N Roll.
It was thanks to one of her heroes, Joan Jett, who told her after she opened for the icon:
The men will do anything to keep a woman in rock n roll down.
They will sabotage you, they will saddle you with debt, they will call you crazy.
That is where she found the fortitude to fight back against the sabotage, corruption and conspiracies that revealed themselves to her come 2025.
Hannah has taken her experiences and alchemized them into a record that took great courage and clarity to create.
Alongside the release of the new album, she has launched an independent and interactive creative arts magazine, The Strawberry Moon Tribune, meant to serve as the container for the ancient wisdom bubbling to the surface.
She believes we each carry innate inner wisdom worth sharing, so the magazine is open to submissions from readers. Art, photography, poetry, short stories: all are welcome for the chance to be published within its pages.
Join Hannah as she works to be the change she wishes to see in this world and become part of the Strawberry Moon Street Team to help spread the word far and wide.
