Hampstead Norreys Community Shop Orchard
On December 5th, 2020, over 80 volunteers, aged 2 to 80, braved the cold to plant 65 mixed, heritage fruit trees and an edible fruiting hedge, with a view to stocking Hampstead Norreys Community Shop and Café with an abundance of produce that is fresh, organic, seasonal and as local as local can be! So now, our lovely shop now has its very own traditional orchard located on a private, environmentally-sound development to the rear of its premises. And almost all of those who attended signed up to help care for the trees as they start to grow – thank you.
Many thanks too to Oxford-based orchard expert Andrew Howard, owner of the Heritage Fruit Tree Company, who oversaw successful planting. Thanks to Vanessa who organised everyone and stood in the cold all day, to Jess who took the amazing photos below, to William and Joseph who organised the much needed refreshments, and to 14-year-old Harry who didn’t stop all day!
