Runner Beans can be grown in a larger Container with plenty of well rotted compost, they also
need support sticks. But even better in the ground

Look at Dwarf Beans,Carrots Beetroot Leeks and Kale is very versatile and Tomatoes 
Try a few herbs brilliant in containers around your patio, also salad leaves in containers.  If you buy any veg plants already growing from a Garden Centre harden off before
planting outside.
