Fibre: The Health Trend Worth Paying Attention To
Fibre
Fibre

Fibre is back on the scene again (for the second time for those of us who remember the 80’s) — and unlike many health trends, this one is backed by solid science.

More people are focusing on fibre not just for digestion, but for energy, gut health, blood sugar balance, heart health, and even mood support.

The challenge is that most adults still don’t eat enough of it.

The good news?

Increasing fibre doesn’t have to mean a complete diet overhaul.

Simple changes can make a big difference:

  • Add beans or lentils to soups, salads, and meals
  • Swap white bread, pasta, and rice for wholegrain versions
  • Include nuts and seeds as snacks or toppings
  • Eat fruit and vegetables with the skin on where possible
  • Try adding oats, chia seeds, or flaxseed to breakfast

One of the biggest mistakes people make is increasing fibre too quickly.

A sudden jump can lead to bloating or discomfort, so it’s best to build up gradually and drink plenty of water alongside it.

Gut health experts are also encouraging people to aim for variety.

Different plant foods feed different beneficial gut bacteria, so “diversity” matters just as much as quantity.

A colourful mix of fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds is ideal.

Fibre is great for our digestive health, balancing our blood sugar and can aid weight loss if that’s your aim.
