Ecoprinting for Beginners

This workshop is suitable for Adults (18+).
Eco-printing is a wonderful technique that uses only natural solutions and leaves to produce stunning prints of leaves.
In this workshop, you will eco-print your own silk scarf in beautiful natural colours, learn the process involved in eco-printing, and deepen your understanding of creating sustainably with nature.
You will learn:
Which leaves are best to use for successful eco-prints
How to prepare and bundle your fabric using a sustainable plastic-free method
How to process and wash your scarf, resulting in a unique design, permanently printed on silk in beautiful natural colours
You will also take away a mini kit to try out the technique at home.

An apron
An old bath towel about 1.5 m in length
Leaves
(They will bring some leaves that they call ‘reliable printers’, but to reduce over-foraging in their local area it
would be useful if you could bring a few too.
This will also make your scarf more personal to you.)
It is important to choose leaves that are high in tannin such as:
Rose
Sycamore
Oak
Bramble leaves
Cotinus (smoke bush)
Hawthorn
Acers
Ash

They offer affordable exhibition space to artists and collaborate with local schools and projects to showcase creativity.
There are opportunities for artists to submit work for their Open Exhibitions each on a particular theme.

Their flagship Chalkfest event takes place every August – they take over the Market Square in Newbury and enjoy brightening up the pavement!
A competition of the chalk drawings is judged by a local artist with prizes for different age groups.
