Core Skills Series

This collection of short, focused classes is designed to help you learn or refine one specific cake decorating skill at a time.

Each session concentrates on a single technique, making them ideal for complete beginners as well as confident bakers and decorators who’d like a little extra support in a particular area.

All Core Skills classes run within the same week, and you’re very welcome to book just one or combine several.

Many students choose to attend more than one session to build their skills gradually and gain confidence across a range of techniques.

If you like the look of both classes on one day,  do spend the day with them, breaking for lunch in between.

Full details of each class are listed below, including what you’ll learn and when each session takes place.

Simply select the classes you’d like to attend and book them individually at checkout.

Please note:

  • These classes focus on decorating techniques only and do not include baking.

  • When booking two or more Core Skills classes, you’ll receive 10% off your total booking. Just enter the code CORESKILLS10 at checkout.

The Cake College

Their tutors are not only highly experienced professional bakers, pastry chefs and cake decorators, but passionate teachers too, with years of industry knowledge, creativity and expertise to share.

Just as importantly, they’re warm, friendly people who love helping students grow in confidence.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or already have experience, they’ll make sure you feel relaxed, supported and completely at ease from the moment you walk through the door.

At The Cake College, they believe learning should be fun, inspiring and never intimidating.

Theirr aim is always to teach new skills in a welcoming and relaxed environment, where creativity can flourish and everyone feels encouraged to have a go.

Every member of their team plays a part in creating the friendly atmosphere that makes The Cake College so special.

They have a ramp for those in wheelchairs to access the building, and an accessible toilet.

They can also arrange for parking immediately at the entrance door.

However do  contact them ahead of your class if you require this so they can reserve you the space.

Please be aware that their worktops unfortunately cannot be lowered.

They’d recommend a minimum age of 10 for their adult classes.

It’s really up to parents to decide if their child would be happy decorating cakes for a whole day – after all, you know them best!

They also run seasonal family baking days in the school holidays.

If you have another class in mind for your child/teen, please contact them before booking to check it will be suitable.

Our classes are currently held in Arborfield, close to Wokingham and Reading in Berkshire.

From September 2026, they’ll be moving to their lovely new home:
