Bowdown Woods is a mysterious wooded area waiting for you to explore. It is a woodland paradise with patches of heathland, hidden valleys, and sunny glades. The magical and dense ancient woodland overlooks the gorgeous Kennet Valley. Keep an eye out for the beautiful flora and fauna, including the silver-washed fritillary and the handsome white admiral. You might even see a hazel doormouse! Daylight through the wood creates warm and sunny areas where butterflies bask. The reserve is composed of three areas – Baynes, this is the most secretive part of the wood. The dense ancient woodland there has lots of streams and some steep paths. Bomb Site, ambling areas suitable for robust mobility devices; and Bowdown woods, tranquil, soft after heavy rains. 2.5 miles south-east of Newbury Berkshire RG19 8DA

Dogs
Although the woods is dog-friendly, they wisely advise that dogs should always be kept on a lead.

Accessibility
Variable, the reserve is made up of 3 areas: Baynes: steep slopes, uneven underfoot, long flight of steps and a boardwalk. Bomb Site: flat and surfaced, accessible for robust mobility scooters and robust wheelchairs. Bowdown: gentle slopes, soft after rain.
