Introduction to Weaving

Ensconce yourself in our beautiful barn to learn the basics of weaving in our Introduction to Weaving Workshop. Using a frame loom and weaving tools you will set up your first warp, learn basic tapestry weaving, classic hand-weaving techniques and experiment with a variety of yarns and materials to create your own wall hanging.

This workshop is run at a relaxed pace, perfect for beginners, and gives you all the skills and confidence to practice this meditative craft at home. If the weaving bug bites, you will have the opportunity to purchase the uniquely designed OWS frame loom and its corresponding set of weaving tools at the end of the course.

Lunch and refreshments are included with this course, all provided by Honesty Kitchens. These will include a bowl of one of our delicious seasonal soups paired with our hand crafted bread and, of course, one of our scrummy cakes.

Introduction to Modern Calligraphy | West Berkshire Villagers

This informal, practical and inspirational workshop explores the wonderful art of writing using a nib and ink, but with a modern twist. The workshop will begin with some drill exercises to help you understand and appreciate the slow flow of the nib and basic letter forms. You’re sure to appreciate how relaxing this process is. You will then experiment writing your own postcard-sized print with a saying of your choice. This is yours to take home.

Modern calligraphy requires a good deal of practice. You will leave this workshop with a starter set to continue your skill development at home. But most importantly, you will leave with some confidence to continue practising this beautiful skill at your leisure, helping unlock your own creative style of writing.

    Let’s make letters look beautiful!

    Spring Blossom Applique

Make a small landscape in a day inspired by blossom trees. Images will be provided. We will collage together a fabric background, add tree trunks, then use a confetti technique, cutting tiny pieces with rotary cutters, and sprinkling these onto “mistyfuse”. Tulle is added before ironing and stitching. The composition can then be finished with hand or machine sewing as preferred. We will make a design approximately 35cm long by 35cm high max.
