Shaw House
Often described as a hidden gem, we are located in tranquil surroundings on the north edge of Newbury. Shaw House is a Grade I listed multi-purpose event venue which is also open for the public to explore during school holidays and at weekends between February and September every year.

Family Activity Mornings
Shaw House is open to the public during school holidays and weekends from February to September. FREE admission. Shaw House is also host to a year round programme

Create a musketeer from a clothes peg and other craft materials, then decide if they are they a Roundhead (Parliamentarian) or a Cavalier (Royalist)
Decorating DinosÂ
Construct and colour in a wooden dinosaur.
Perfect Puppets
Decorate your own felt hand puppet, using self-adhesive felt pieces, as the character of your choice.
Dino Footprints
Make a dinosaur footprint in clay and then use Plaster of Paris to make a cast of it.
Helmet at the Ready!
Make and decorate a helmet mask that is similar in style to those worn during the Civil War.
Fantastic Fossils
Make a large ammonite from air-drying clay and then paint it.
Dashing Cavalier
Decorate a hat with pens, stickers and a feather to make a cavalier-style hat for a solider in the Civil War.
Fabulous Ferns
Print a forest of ferns using a printing tile, ink and a calico sheet or cartridge paper.

West Berkshire Museum
West Berkshire Museum offers FREE admission. The museum explores stories of life in our area, frompre-history to today, along with regularly changing special exhibitions. Messy Museum Days take place every Friday throughout the summer holidays, just £2 per child.

Antiques and Brocante Market
A welcome return for the unique French style Brocante market, offering antiques, vintage, retro, bric-a-brac and decorative arts items plus vinyl records on the Great Lawn at Shaw House.
A great day out for all the family with free entry to explore the House. Street food will be available outside plus light refreshments from the café and pre-prepared picnics are available to order from the Shaw House café (see separate website listing).

Outdoor Theatre: Rapunzal | West Berkshire Villagers
Let your hair down and get tangled in a brand-new musical adaptation of the classic fairy tale, RAPUNZEL!
Immersion Theatre proudly presents a witty, pantomimic, tongue-in-cheek retelling of the family favourite complete with a laugh out loud script, a host of catchy songs, heaps of audience interaction, and an exciting array of larger-than-life characters.
With magic and mayhem throughout and a chance to meet the characters after the show, this is one hair-raising adventure your family won’t want to miss!
Performance approx. 1hr 40 mins (plus 20 minute interval).
Please bring your own seating/rug, warm clothes and picnic. The café will be open selling snacks, drinks and ice cream.

Bats at the Museum 2022
A walk by local bat expert James Shipman about the life of these amazing creatures. Did you know bats can live for up to 30 years? James explains where they live, how they fly in the dark, and why they are so important and protected by law.
After a brief talk outside the Museum, James will help us see and hear several species that emerge at dusk nearby (weather dependent).
Please note: Places are limited. There will be no access to West Berkshire Museum before, during or after the event.
The meeting point for the walk is at the front of the Museum, outside the main entrance (on the wide pavement). The event starts at 8.30pm.
