If you’re stuck for a rural retreat that’s easy to get to, hot on its food, with a serious cellar and perfect for that night or two away from it all, you need the modern inn. This restaurant with rooms near London presents award winning and Michelin recommended dining with produce provenance at its heart. The friendliest of service, a choice of well tempered tipples and a great night’s sleep complete the mix.

Find your nook in the cosy bar with its bubbles by the glass and gins you’ve yet to hear of. Dine on refined modern British dishes with unpretentious, yet nothing’s-too-much-trouble service. Rediscover what it is to savour every morsel because your palate’s in overdrive and the wine’s too good to quaff. Spot the locals who are loath to leave. Sleep in like-no-other bedrooms characterful for their aged architecture as much for their bold décor. Wake up from the ultimate slumber, provided by luxurious mattresses, to the freshest of breakfasts and clean rural air. Your weekend getaway, sorted.

Since 2014, The Miller of Mansfield has been home to Mary and Nick Galer, host and chef patrons. Both former team members of The Fat Duck Group, at The Miller they bring you their take on elegant food, personally selected wines and effortless service. We encourage you to savour every Miller morsel in our cosy and characterful inn nestled between the Berkshire Downs and the Chiltern Hills in the beautiful village of Goring-on-Thames. Our service ethos is: eat what you want, where you want. So make yourselves at home.

The Miller of Mansfield was shortlisted for specialist award Front of House Team of the Year at the 2018 Top 50 Gastropubs, for Best Newcomer at the 2016 Cateys, and was acclaimed Good Food Guide Readers’ Restaurant of the Year 2016.

Eat refined modern British dishes from the freshest seasonal, British ingredients. Drink a well kept pint, a glass of well chosen wine, champagne opened by sabrage. Sleep like a baby in characterful and individually designed rooms.

Food is at the heart of the Miller experience. Nick’s food ethos is two fold: eat fine food without formality and think of food as more than just fuel. Savour each dish; enjoy and explore each flavour. Nick and his highly skilled team select seasonal ingredients from British suppliers to craft dishes that show off the produce to excite your eyes and woo your palate. Whether dining in the bar, restaurant or courtyard, tuck into a menu that offers nibbles alongside a la carte dishes, at lunch and at dinner. Alternatively, take Nick’s signature tasting menu for a deep dive into his culinary creativity.

Foodies Favourite Award – in March 2021, The Miller was awarded the inaugural Foodies Favourite accolade from Estrella’s Top 50 Gastropubs. The award was voted for by British diners nationwide rather than critics and judges, and for that we are truly humbled. It’s you we feed and serve every day, and it’s your opinions and praise that we listen to most, so thank you!

The Good Food Guide Readers’ Restaurant of the Year – this is an award you can only win once and we achieved it early in our time at The Miller. It has kept us focused and ensured a steady stream of repeat visitors, those who had voted for us on this occasion and others who have found us as a result of the accolade.

Finest quality ingredients and giving the ultimate respect to the raw product. Reflected in the simple elegance of his food and evolving menu. Go on, be fooled by the apparent simplicity of your dish. Let the flavours get to work on your tastebuds, one delicious mouthful at a time. Creative dishes, pored over, tried and tested time and again, for guests to savour rather than devour.

Nick will lead a seasonally focused, small group cookery demo followed by a two course lunch joined by Nick.
