Spotlight on The Woodspeen

A Michelin star restaurant, The Woodspeen, Newbury , West Berkshire  and cookery school, are set in a lovingly restored 19th century farmhouse, nestling in the West Berkshire countryside.

They serve seasonal dishes, inspired by homegrown ingredients. With a Michelin star, award-winning wine list and a relaxed atmosphere.

It was 2013 when The Woodspeen began its transformation from a run-down country pub into a beautiful, contemporary restaurant and cosy bar. Designed with a picture window to take full advantage of the breathtaking views over the West Berkshire countryside and an open kitchen where you can watch the chef’s at work, creating their delightful dishes. It was Autumn 2014, when a group of former colleagues came together with their wealth of hospitality experience, that The Woodspeen was born.

It was not long after opening, they achieved our first Michelin star for our food and service, and a Wine Spectator award for our wine list. Within a stone’s throw of the restaurant is our state-of-the-art cookery school , housed in a beautifully converted barn, overlooking our own vegetable garden.

Whether you’re a budding chef or an absolute beginner, they run courses to suit everyone in their cookery school – from butchery to bread making. They’re fun but hands-on, to give you a real sense of achievement.  They also host demonstrations, wine tastings and events in our school kitchen throughout the year, as well as  their Kitchen Table private dining experiences.
