Spotlight on The Halfway House, Nr Hungerford | West Berkshire Villages

Situated in the heart of West Berkshire on the Bath Road, Halfway is given its name as it is halfway between Bristol and London on the historic coaching route between the two major cities. The Halfway Inn dates back to the 1800’s as a historic coaching inn where the horses were given a well-deserved rest during their long journey. No doubt the coach masters may have had a drink or two at the same time! History has it that the pub may have had a number of names before it ended up as The Halfway Inn. The Old Green Man is amongst the names given and there may be some reference to him today in the pub. Halfway is just four miles from the market town of Newbury. Hungerford and its plethora of antiquities is just five miles away and the beautiful town of Marlborough is a further eight miles to the west.  To this day, the pub sits near the heart of The Valley of The Racehorse and nestled neatly between Lambourn and Newbury. So, it is with no surprise that the logo and brand reflects that of a horse.

The Halfway Inn is run by Nick and Jo Moreton. They both have a proven track record in the hospitality business and share a genuine passion for amazing customer service. It is their aim to provide the customers of The Halfway Inn with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere along with a contemporary venue with twists of quirkiness that serves amazing food and drink.

They have lived locally for nearly twenty years and have a desire to breathe life into the historic Halfway Inn. They are hands on hosts of the business and will ensure everyone has an enjoyable visit.

Head Chef, Lee Mildenhall and his team look to bring you some amazing dishes with some pub classics served with flair. You may also see some unusual dishes from around the world.

Vision, Ethos & Sustainability

Our vision is simple. Great, honest, local food and drink served by great people.

We will use locally sourced food where possible. We will (spring/summer 2021) also grow our own produce by having our own garden for herbs, vegetables and fruit.

We serve the pub classics, but also want to produce some amazing dishes from around the world. We also want to bring you some great seafood and game. In the Summer of 2021, we will open our outdoor kitchen and Pizza Oven where we will hold ‘Pizza & Bubbles’ events with freshly made gourmet pizzas, served with Champagne along with some live music. For more information please look at the Menus section

We also make most of our own products and bake our own bread and pastries.

Simply put, we want to be as self-sufficient and sustainable as we can.

We are a dog-friendly pub that allow diners and their pooches to eat in the bar lounge and Saddle Room. We have some comfortable beds for your best friend and some treats as long as they are good …
