Have your say on improving Northcroft Lido

Have your say on improving Northcroft Lido

Your views are needed to make the Lido even better. The Lido is located in the grounds of Northcroft Leisure Centre. The lido is affected by ground water levels which make it difficult to maintain and means it can not be guaranteed when it would be open, which is frustrating. West Berkshire Council want to make one of West Berkshire’s most loved leisure facilities, the Lido at Northcroft Leisure Centre, Newbury even better, and they need your help. At 72 metres long, it is Berkshire’s largest outdoor pool. However, it dates back to 1870, has structural issues and they would like to improve it. The area around the pool also needs updating and could house some exciting new facilities which could be used for a longer opening period.

It is felt that the area around the pool is currently under utilised and they are asking you to complete a short questionnaire to say what you would like.

They are also holding a public webinar with Councillor Howard Woollaston, West Berkshire’s Executive Member for Leisure and Culture, Jim Sweeting, Sports and Leisure Manager at West Berkshire Council and Paul Martindill, Leisure Consultant at 5pm on Tuesday, 3 August 2021 to discuss the proposals and answer your questions.

If you’d like to submit your questions beforehand, please email them to pr@westberks.gov.uk by midday on Friday 30 July 2021.

The council would like to stabilise the pool structure  and worked with Space and Place to produce a plan to include interactive splash pads, changing cubicles, sun terrace and relaxation places.

West Berkshire Council

We want to make one of West Berkshire’s most loved leisure facilities, the Lido at Northcroft Leisure Centre in Newbury, even better – and we need your help.

We’re proposing improvements to the facility which will allow it to open for longer each year, and we’re also reviewing the facilities at the site. These images provide a concept of what it could look like with potential new features such as a children’s interactive splash pad, changing cubicles and lockers by the pool, and a sun-terrace and relaxation space

We’ve got plenty of ideas but we’d love your opinions on these and any other ideas to make the lido somewhere that can be enjoyed in the years to come. If you love your lido, tell us what would improve it for you.

We’re also holding a public webinar at 5pm next Tuesday (3 August) to discuss the options and answer your questions. If you would like to join the webinar you need to register in advance and you can also follow it live on our YouTube channel
