Each year on 10th September, countries around the world commemorate World Suicide Prevention Day to raise awareness of the 800,000 people who die by suicide each year. This equates to one person every 40 seconds. In the UK, suicide kills over 6000 people per year and is the biggest killer of men aged 20-49.

More than 200 children and young people under the age of 18 die by suicide in the UK each year, a rate of four per week.

Charlie Waller is rapidly expanding its work with parents. Being the parent or carer of a child or young person with a mental health problem can be extremely challenging, lonely, and frightening. However, with the right support, parents can do a great deal to help their children overcome their difficulties and thrive.

By supporting Walkies for Wellbeing 2021, you’ll be making a massive difference in reducing the stigma of mental health.

Here are some ways your support will help:

£25 pays for 114 packs of resources for parents and carers

£100 pays for a small series of mental health webinars

£640 pays for two 2-hour sessions of expert clinical support and supervision for parent group leaders

Wisteria Window in Line and Watercolour

West Berkshire Villagers | Events | What’s On | Things to Do

Using ink lines along with watercolour in a painting is a lovely technique as linework provides a structure to a picture while loose watercolour washes add vibrancy and colour. We will be painting the window of a French Chateau using waterproof pens first, to put down the main drawing and then painting loose colourful watercolour washes on top and finally putting in extra details in pen again at the end.

    What to bring:

    • Please bring along any watercolour equipment that you already have.

    • WATERCOLOUR PAINTS (either tubes or pans)

    Herself

West Berkshire Villagers | Events | What’s On | Things to Do

Sandra (Clare Dunne), on the surface of it, is a young Mum struggling to provide her two young daughters with a warm, safe, happy home to grow up in.

Beneath the surface, Sandra has a steely determination to change their lives for the better and when it becomes clear that the local council won’t provide that home, she decides to build it herself from scratch. With very little income to speak of and no savings, Sandra must use all her ingenuity to make her ambitious dream a reality.

At the same time, she must escape the grip of her possessive ex-husband and keep him away from her and her girls. The lionhearted Sandra draws together a community of friends to support her and lend a helping hand and it is the kindness and generosity of these people and the love of her young daughters that help build her own strength and sense of self.

With a cast that also includes Harriet Walter and Conleth Hill, Herself is the outstanding new film from Phyllida Lloyd, acclaimed director of The Iron Lady and Mamma Mia!

This screening is on sale at reduced capacity with one seat left on either side of each booking.
