The Three Musketeers

The play has a cast of 2m 2f and is a riotous adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' classic novel. It is a funny high energy play. Swashbuckling and rollicking adventure guaranteed - convincing French accents, not so much.

New Era are staging 'Lloyd George Knew my Father' this November.
They are looking for a young man to play the role of Simon. Please see the synopsis and character description below:

Lloyd George Knew My Father

This is a two act play which takes place in the drawing room of a grand country mansion which has been in the Boothroyd family for centuries.  It is purported that Charles 1 had breakfast there before the battle of Edge Hill.  Although the house is grand, the room should be homely and ‘lived in’.  I picture comfortable chintz sofas/chairs, good solid furniture – possibly restoration type, standard lamps, etc.  A baby grand piano would be wonderful, as would solid oak panelling (dream on!).

A new bypass is planned which cuts through the Boothroyd land.  Lady Boothroyd has taken exception to this and plans to ‘do herself in’ as soon as the ‘first sod is turned’.  There is much comedy in the play, mainly caused by misunderstandings, but it is by no means a farce.  It does have some serious and rather poignant moments.  There are undercurrents concerning Lord and Lady Boothroyd’s rather pompous MP son whose main concern is bad publicity and the loss of his seat (where have we heard this before?)  He has a wife and daughter.

I am setting the play in the early 1970s, as there is mention of William and Sheila having been together for 50 years – married in 1922.  There is great scope for costumes – flared trousers, waistcoats, mini skirts, pinafore dresses, ponchos, denim, etc.

There are eight characters in the play.  The family consists of two ‘oldies’, two middle aged and one younger one, plus her boyfriend.  We also have a butler and the local vicar.  The ages can range from early 20s up to 70s plus, so great opportunities for a good mix of ages.

    Escape from Extinction

West Berkshire Villagers | Events | What’s On | Things to Do

A pioneering feature narrated by Academy Award® Winner, Dame Helen Mirren, Escape From Extinctionexplores the critical efforts of major zoological organisation's to preserve millions of species on the verge of disappearing forever.

Featuring rare footage of endangered animals and interviews with the world’s leading animal welfare and conservation specialists, this powerful and eye-opening feature explores the work of zoos and aquariums across the globe as they race to protect and preserve animals from all seven of Earth’s continents. With the very web of life on Earth being threatened in what scientists are calling a ‘Sixth Mass Extinction’, such organisations are nature’s last arks of hope in preserving the rich legacy of life on our world. Without this help – and the global engagement of the public – the biological treasures we hope to bequeath to our children and our grandchildren may disappear forever within a generation.

This screening is on sale at reduced capacity with one seat left either side of each booking
