This four-part LivePlus™ online linoprinting course is designed for absolute beginners and those with a little knowledge of the subject
In this series Karen will show you that linoprinting is a great technique to do at home…easy to learn, using minimal equipment with a whole host of variations available once you’ve got the basics.
Forget the blunt tools and tough lino of school days and enjoy the process with soft-cut lino and a whole range of approaches. Perfect for printing cards, wall art, fabric etc. whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to expand your skills.
Session 1: We’ll start off with the absolute basics covering tools, materials, elements of design (templates will be available if you want to use my designs), different cutting techniques and inking & printing in black & white.
Session 2: This is all about exploring colour – we will be using blends & rainbow rolls, spot colour, masks, a nifty cutting and sticking technique, & collage as well as making a basic registration device.
Session 3: Jigsaw prints, Stamps & Composite images…designing plates to be cut up, inked and reassembled in both a structured and informal way to create multicoloured images with minimum effort!
Session 4: We will look at working in layers…designing for a two or three layer linoprint; layering using polystyrene as a printing plate, freeform layering & creating interesting backgrounds using the back of the plate for simple monoprinting.
Specific skills you will learn at the workshop:
- Creating designs suitable for linoprinting
- A range of cutting techniques
- Materials & tools for getting the best results when handprinting
- A variety of inking & printing techniques
- Playing with colour, layering & combining with other printing plates
