WHY MEAD?
Starting in the early 1990's being involved in dark age re-enactment meant mead was the drink to have round the campfire.
Before the internet finding a bottle or two of mead to pick up on the way involved detouring to a pre arranged off-licence who had some in stock.
HOW WE STARTED
As it happened I knew a few bee keepers so making my own seemed the best option. Later having moved over to Medieval re-enactment mead was still the drink to have so I began to take a boot full, and when that wasn’t enough we moved on to having a stall
As is often the case with home brewers, the under stairs cupboard is rapidly outgrown, and there is nothing like enthusiasm, so having progressed through a variety of spaces, now we have a commercial unit in order to keep up with demand and expand our range, and are now licensed to include retail and wholesale through the AWRS scheme

We are now stocked in many off licences and farm shops, pubs, restaurants and boutique bars.
We also supply mead to hand fastings and weddings, where mead makes an excellent toasting drink.

THE WOODLAND FEAST
A four course woodland feast in beautiful mature woodlands in Oxfordshire. Walk through the woods, enjoy a cocktail (or mocktail) on arrival. Sit at our locally sourced oak tables, under a beautiful canopy of mature beech trees for a feast cooked over fire. Our chefs have been carefully chosen for their mouth watering, fire flavoured and seasonally inspired food. Please find an example menu here. Gather around the campfire afterwards for marshmallows, fire brewed coffee or mint tea. We cater for all types of dietary requirements.

LOCATION
This event will be held in woodland near Goring Heath in the beautiful South Oxfordshire countryside. The nearest train stations are Goring on Thames, Pangbourne and Reading. Reading station is just a 23 minute train journey from London Paddington. You will be sent a Google pin drop with the exact meeting location of the woodland car park with your ticket.

Just beginning your family history research and need some advice? Baffled by so many competing research websites?
Banging your head against a brick wall? Or struggling with some other issues? In this one-to-one session, one of our seasoned advisors will help you make some progress.
To make the most of your session our advisors will carry out some preliminary research beforehand, and for that we need you provide us with some information please:
- to tell us what you’ve done so far
- describe the nature of the problem
- attach copies of any key documents such as BMD certificates, research notes
- if possible, provide a link to a family tree we can view (members – if your tree has been uploaded to YourTrees, that would be perfect) or at least attach a copy of a hand drawn tree of the immediate family of the people you’re researching
After you’ve booked you’ll be taken to a page where you can enter that information.
You can do it later but it’s much better to prepare that material now and complete the form while you’re at the keyboard and the topic is fresh in your mind.
Bookings close 7 days before the session to give us time to research your submission.
But every extra day helps, as we’re manned solely by part-time volunteers so the earlier you book, the better.
These sessions are face-to-face.

The Hartley Arms is opening its doors every other Thursday, to a world of live entertainment with Honesty Live! Sit back and relax with friends and family whilst enjoying a range of live entertainment from music to comedy. Drinks and food will be available throughout the night. Doors open from 5.30pm with entertainment starting from 7.30pm. Entry is FREE but Booking is ESSENTIAL!

Thursday 18th August: Acoustic Indie Singer Charley Hart
Charley Hart is a solo artist with an incredible voice and who sings lesser known but much loved songs, from artists such as Katie Tunstall to Paolo Nutini. She’s been gigging since she was fourteen years old and has written and recorded a number of her own songs that have appeared on Spotify. Her singing is a hobby that she has developed and grown since she was young, and she now enjoys playing regularly at local venues and events across West Berkshire and Hampshire. Her style is acoustic indie.

Approx 3hrsYou start by walking along the beautiful River Pang, a tributary of the Thames, through a mainly Ash woodland where Deer roam, Marsh Tits and Spotted Flycatchers move through the trees, Woodpeckers Drum and Yaffle and Blackcaps can be heard singing along the pathway. You then head into the reserve to explore its diverse habitat through beautiful woodland copses and meadows where there is an abundance of wildlife ready to be found.
