Mark Steel returns to the Corn Exchange as part of his latest tour.

The critically acclaimed Mark Steel’s in Town was voted the 6th best radio comedy ever and Mark is a regular on the BBC’s Have I Got News For You, QI and BBCR4’s News Quiz. He has been named newspaper columnist of the year and is author of the award-winning audiobook Who Do I Think I Am.

When you buy a ticket to see one of our fabulous comedians this autumn, we're giving you the chance to see some of the best up-and-coming talent at our monthly Comedy Network for a special, discounted price. Once you have booked for either Mark Steel, Sofie Hagen, Kerry Godliman, Seann Walsh, Milton Jones or Tom Allen, you will be able to book tickets for the September, October or November 2022 Comedy Network for £10 per ticket.

    WEEK LONG MUSIC MAKING EVENTS

    Keep your child making music this summer!  Hogan Music have put together a packed week full of inspiring, musical workshops for your child to enjoy including beginner instrumental sessions, workshops with Corn Exchange, Newbury and Ragtime Theatre School as well as their popular Band Jam course. Don’t forget, if you’re yet to use your school membership discount on a workshop this year, do this now before the academic year is over. Group memberships receive a £35.00 discount, duo memberships receive £50.00 and solo memberships receive £100. Places on each workshop are limited, so book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

    Learn new skills, strum your favourite chords and discover some new songs with other ukulele players!
    For students 6-11 years old.


    Monday 25th July, 13:00-15:30
    Songwriting Discovery with Louisa
    Gather all the tools you need to write your very own first song in this dedicated workshop.
    9-14 years old, no experience needed!


    Tuesday 26th July and 9th August, 9:30-12:00
    Keyboard Grooves with Laura
    Spend a morning learning some new tunes, discovering new techniques and working as a group to perform together.
    For students 6-11 years old.


    Tuesday 26th July and 9th August, 13:00-15:30
    Behind the scenes with Corn Exchange Newbury
    Join Technical Manager Hilda Harper to find out more about behind the scenes life at a professional theatre.
    For students 8-13 years old.

    Musical Mayhem with Ragtime Theatre School
    Love Encanto and Moana? Sign up for an afternoon learning the songs, putting actions and words to them with our friends at Ragtime Theatre School.
    For students 6-11 years old.

    Wednesday 10th - Friday 12th August, 13:00-15:30 (12 - 16 years old)
    Summer Band Jam
    Put your skills into practice with our 3-day Band Jam. Form a band, choose the songs and practice together under the expert guidance of our pro-players.
    Students need to have a minimum of one term of lessons.

    Drum Lab with Will
    Time to explore some new grooves and beats as we assemble all our drum kits for this fun morning of drumming.
    For students 8-13 years old, no experience or up to two years playing.

    Guitar Riffs with Ben
    Beginner chords, finger technique and new songs – all covered in this morning of guitar fun!
    For students age 6-11 years old, no experience or up to two years playing.

    Chalk Fest 2022

    City Arts 2022 flagship community event returns to Newbury Market place on Monday 8 August 2022 – join them from 10am to 4pm to chalk in the Market Square in Newbury

    On the square you will be allocated an area per household to create roughly a 1 metre square picture in a safe environment – social distancing measures may be in place.
    It is free to chalk but they ask you for a donation towards the chalk if you want to enter our 2022 competition.
    To pay the donation entry fee you can add it to their donations bucket on the day or pay by card at the event (£1 per competition participant).

    They’ll ask you to photograph the chalk artwork when you’ve finished and e-mail them the pictures of the chalk artwork, letting them know the age of the participant (when filling you details on payment).

    The prizes will be City Arts Gift Vouchers for children (to 12 years old), teen (13 to 17 years old) and adult (18 +) categories.

    Date: Chalkfest 2022 is on 8 August 2022 – pay your competition entry either cash or card on the day up to 4pm
    Deadline: Pay your fee at the event and send us your images by 7pm on 8 August 2022 to info@cityartsnewbury.co.uk with the name of the entrant you told us when making payment and the entry number they’ll give you.

    Competition results will be published on their Facebook page on week commencing 22 August 2022. The images will be judged by their chairman and artist Diana Pattenden. The judge decision is final.
