Alcohol Ink: Getting Started

West Berkshire Villagers | Events | What’s On | Things to Do

This one-day, onsite workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those with a little experience. The workshop is a very experimental and playful day. It is all about getting to understand the material and learning how to create beautiful unique pieces or art. You will be shown how to create your very own alcohol ink illustrations on yupo paper (which is a non-porous, acid free and pH neutral, synthetic paper) as well as ceramics. You will have plenty of time to get familiar with the fluid and the very colourful nature of alcohol inks. We use isopropanol alcohol to allow the inks to move around the paper. Then, using heat guns, straws and hair dryers you will be able to move the inks and dry them in position.

The morning will consist of covering the basics of alcohol inks and lots of experimentation before leading onto a little more structure in the afternoon. After lunch you will use the skills you have learnt in the morning session to create a trinket dish or coaster, as well as a 4”x4” wood panel wall hanging. These two pieces will then be taken away to Resin and posted back to you a week after the workshop. As well as learning the techniques involved with creating alcohol ink illustrations you will also learn the resin process I use to finish artwork, via a digital demonstration. Resin can’t be demonstrated in person as the fumes are too dangerous to breathe in without the appropriate respirator. But learning the process allows you to gain a greater understanding of the material.

    Escape from Extinction

West Berkshire Villagers | Events | What’s On | Things to Do

A pioneering feature narrated by Academy Award® Winner, Dame Helen Mirren, Escape From Extinctionexplores the critical efforts of major zoological organisation's to preserve millions of species on the verge of disappearing forever.

Featuring rare footage of endangered animals and interviews with the world’s leading animal welfare and conservation specialists, this powerful and eye-opening feature explores the work of zoos and aquariums across the globe as they race to protect and preserve animals from all seven of Earth’s continents. With the very web of life on Earth being threatened in what scientists are calling a ‘Sixth Mass Extinction’, such organisations are nature’s last arks of hope in preserving the rich legacy of life on our world. Without this help – and the global engagement of the public – the biological treasures we hope to bequeath to our children and our grandchildren may disappear forever within a generation.

This screening is on sale at reduced capacity with one seat left either side of each booking
