A Monster Calls

THU 10 NOV 2022 - SAT 12 NOV 2022

'Stories are wild creatures', the monster said. 'When you let them loose, who knows what havoc they might wreak?'

Every night at exactly seven minutes after midnight, Conor O’Malley has the same nightmare, ever since his mother fell ill.

But one night, something is different, something is at his window. An ancient, wild, force of nature - a monster, and it wants to tell its story but in return.

Conor must face his deepest fear yet and tell the truth.

A heartbreaking tale of mischief, healing and finding the courage to survive. Patrick Ness’s bestselling novel is brought vividly to life by The Watermill Youth Ensemble.

Lulu Coldrey  is a British artist specialising in wildlife art, portraiture and landscape art. Extensive study of the fine arts in Florence and in London has helped her develop her own style in a variety of mediums, from oil paints and charcoal, to watercolour and pastels.

Lulu's work has taken her all over the world, whether for portrait commissions, landscapes or wildlife pieces. Her ability to capture the complex mixture of character, emotion, form and textures whilst connecting with the personal nature of her subject, gives Lulu's work a unique and special quality.

Her latest pieces combine the abstract shapes of nature with the grace and beauty of the animals world.

To commission work, please either email me or call me. We can then discuss what you are hoping for and work out how best to proceed.

Should you wish to proceed a 50% non-refundable deposit is required.

I am happy to arrange framing, and have a very good framer local to myself. Please be aware it can take up to two weeks to get things framed.

"When you buy from an independent artist, you are buying more than a painting, a novel or a song. You are buying hundreds of hours of experimentation and thousands of failures, you are buying days, weeks, months, years of frustration and pure joy.

You are buying nights of worry about paying the bills, having enough money to eat, feed the children, birds, the dog. You are not buying a thing, you are buying a piece of heart, part of a soul, a private moment in someone's life.

Most importantly you are buying the artist more time to do something they are truly passionate about; something that makes all of the above worth the fear and the doubt; something that puts life into the living". Anon

    Beautiful Breads

Romilla Arber has been baking bread for many years and is passionate about real bread, made traditionally. She firmly believes that good-quality bread doesn’t make you fat! Industrialised, mass produced bread is the perfect example of how our food culture has broken down. It is made with only profit in mind not what is best for the health of the customer.

On this course you will make a variety of breads (there will be plenty to take home) and enjoy a simple lunch with a glass of wine. You too can fall in love with the art of bread making and learn how to make exquisite artisan loaves in your own kitchen.

Romilla is the author or two cookery books and she has won the prestigious Gourmand Best UK Cookbook award for her second book. She is a passionate advocate of eating a balanced diet and in 2008 founded the Food Education Trust with the aim of working with schools to promote the benefits of home-cooked food.

Romilla is the founder and owner of The Honesty Group which includes the Crown and Garter at Inkpen and the Hartley Arms at Donnington.

8 people maximum.  All abilities welcome.
