Highclere Christmas Tours and Afternoon Teas 2022

Afternoon Tea

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas, just like the ones I used to know.
Where the treetops glisten, and children listen to hear sleigh bells in the snow.”
Highclere cannot promise snow – they will try and pray – but they hope they can offer some beautiful tours, teas, carols, book talks and shopping, as well as a chance to see the New Era Downton film in the real “Downton Abbey.”
The programme ends as ever with a performance of a Christmas Carol in the Castle Saloon.
In the centenary of the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun by the 5th Earl of Carnarvon and Howard Carter and the publication of my book “The Earl and the Pharaoh” this year’s Christmas decoration theme is inspired by Ancient Egypt.
They have been working on it for the last four months in the background and there are some magical colours to light up the darker days.
They very much look forward to welcoming you.
“May you never be too grown up to search the skies on Christmas Eve.”

Tickets are £95 per Adult Ticket,

Carer Tickets £50,

Children’s Tickets £50.

Please note, the maximum booking size is 6 tickets.

There is no concession rate for this event.

Please take the opportunity to visit the Gift Shop and explore the Gardens at your own leisure. We hope you find some charming Christmas gifts for friends and family to complete your shopping.

Step into the spirit of Christmas at the real “Downton Abbey” and join them for Christmas guided tours and Afternoon Teas at Highclere Castle.

As they welcome guests back this year, they have a very different Christmas theme and they are so looking forward to sharing it with you!

The starting place as ever, is the Highclere Christmas tree in the Saloon and the festive garlands that cascade down the staircases.

You will then tour the State Rooms, including the wintery white and shimmering silver arrangements in the Drawing Room and the traditional styling of the Library and the State Dining Room.

Tour the bedrooms upstairs and explore the Egyptian exhibition in the cellars which tells the story of the world-famous discovery in 1922 of the tomb of Tutankhamun by the 5th Earl of Carnarvon and Howard Carter.

Following your tour, you will make your way outside to the Christmas marquee on the Castle lawns for a delicious seated traditional Afternoon Tea.

These exclusive tours are available for a limited number of guests.

Tickets are £95 per person and include a Christmas tour, traditional Afternoon Tea and time to explore the Castle Gift Shop and Gardens.

In order to help you plan your day, we have created the following schedules:
A.    Gates open from 9.30am for a 10:00am tour time (tour of the Castle, Exhibition and Afternoon Tea)
B.    Gates open from 11:30am for a 12noon tour time (tour of the Castle, Exhibition and Afternoon Tea)
C.    Gates open from 1:00pm for a 2:00pm tour time (tour of the Castle, Exhibition and Afternoon Tea). Guests in this group may wish to arrive at the suggested 1:00pm to explore the gardens before the Castle tour.

The tours are each about 1 hour long, followed by entry to the Egyptian exhibition.

You will then make your way to the marquee for Afternoon Tea for 45 minutes.

There is then time to enjoy the Gift Shop and Gardens at leisure.

They would ask Group C to explore the Gardens and Gift Shop earlier before your tour and tea.

Grounds close promptly at 5pm.

The dress code for the event is smart/casual with sensible outdoor wear should you wish to explore the gardens.
