English Wine Week
English and Welsh wines have been making their mark on the international stage and are widely celebrated – come and discover more about our wines, the vineyards and the people. English Wine week runs from the 19th June to the 27th June. Following the long period of frosts through April & May, some vineyards struggled to ensure there was no damage to the vines however the better weather arrived just in time.
English Wine Week is moving to be a truly Midsummer event!
The aim of English Wine Week to help provide an opportunity to help sell local wine, and to inspire more people to get to know our wonderful English wines better and help them buy from their local vineyards.
There are some great promotions on offer during English Wine Week from Wines Gb of Great Britain and a list of vineyards offering sustainable wines.

Although they are a boutique vineyard ( they don’t have acres and acres) you will have an in-depth tour of the vines led by one of their owners who will explain the history of the plantings, the varieties of grapes they grow, and also some background to the explosion of the English wine industry over the last few years. There are now some 700 vineyards in England and Wales.
While they do not make the wine themselves, they are intimately involved at every stage of its making. They will take you through all the processes that occur at the winery (based just outside Salisbury) during the tasting in our 18th century barn which overlooks the vines. There will be a display board of the winery equipment and the processes the grapes go through from vine to wine.
Chiltern Valley Vineyard

The English Wine and Food Festival
Vineyards in the Thames and Chilterns region are presenting their exciting wines at the English Wine & Food Festival at Brightwell Vineyard, Wallingford, on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th July 2021, from 11am to 5pm each day.
You will have the opportunity to taste, compare and buy award-winning local wines in one relaxing location. Meet winemakers and growers, a Master of Wine specialising in English wine, and learn more about the grape varieties that do well in our climate. Exotic names like Bacchus, Dornfelder and Phoenix rub shoulders with classic varieties like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to produce superb wines that reflect the local area. Try many different wines and styles before you purchase glasses of wine to enjoy at the event, and bottles to take home.
Along side the participating vineyards local food producers will be cooking up tasty meals and selling beautifully made culinary delights. Pairing the wide range of still and sparkling wines with the freshly made dishes on offer makes this a rewarding event for wine-lovers and foodies alike.
Wine tastings and sales, vineyard walks, local artisan food and craft suppliers, make this a enjoyable, informal and informative afternoon – a real celebration of the wonderful variety of wines and foods that the Thames and Chilterns region has to offer.
