Wild Paddle- Berkshire Their tours set off from both Newbury and Kintbury locks and are perfect for beginners through to advanced. A new company called Wild Paddle has launched Paddleboard lessons on the Kennet.
Two hour sessions cost £29 and according to the Wild Paddle website you only need to know how to swim.
Most of our guests have had no prior experience with paddleboarding, therefore at your designated launch site, one of our trained guides will give you a great introduction to paddleboarding and provide you with all of the necessary equipment and give you an informative safety lesson. Join us on the wild moors of Dartmoor and prepare for cryptic chaos with just three actors playing all the characters in a brand-new comedy version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most celebrated Sherlock Holmes story.
When Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead with a look of horror still on his face and beside him the paw prints of a gigantic beast, Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson are summoned from Baker Street to investigate the crime and discover the truth about the Hound of the Baskervilles.
The show takes place outside in The Watermill Theatre gardens. Seats will be uncovered, and performances will go ahead whatever the weather, so bring a sun hat, warm clothes and waterproofs to enjoy the experience of watching the mystery unfold in the garden. You may also wish to bring a cushion.
Running time : approximately 1 hour 25 minutes including interval
Tickets £100 per table. Each table seats up to four people, from your party only.

Social Distancing and Safety Measures
To ensure the safety of our audience members, performers, and staff, we have implemented social distancing measures, and this includes significantly reducing the number of audience members we can welcome onsite for each performance.
From 29 July to 8 August, there will be twenty tables on the back lawn available for each performance. From 19 August to 6 September, performances will move to the front lawn where there will be fourteen tables available for each performance. Each table can seat a maximum of four people from your party only. Tables are unreserved and you will be able to select your table on arrival. Each table will be in its own 2 metre x 2 metre area with space between neighbouring tables and aisles.

One day enamelling on silver introduction This one day group workshop is an introduction to using vitreous enamels on silver. We will be using predominamently transparent enamels and using a kiln for firing.
The day starts with an overview of the processes and then you will be shown how to prepare the enamels and the silver for enamelling. You will make test colour tiles and then go ont to have a go enamelling silver using a variety of techniques.
There will be set projects to follow and so this course is suitable for people who have no experience in silver jewellery making as well as those who already make jewellery and want to learn how to add colour to their work.
Some participants might like to have a go at torch firing enamels as this can be done without a kiln and so if you already make your own jewellery you would be able to continue without purchasing expensive equipment.
The fee includes the use of enamels and other consumables. The silver will be weighed and charged at cost. The charge does depend on how quickly you work and what you decide to make, it will probably be in the region of £10 – £15.00.
Most of the silver will be set pieces using silver blanks, although you will have the opportunity to do make your own textures and patterns in some of the projects. The emphasis of the day is on the enamelling rather than making pieces to be enamelled. You will come away with at least one finished piece that can be worn as a pendant, you may also be able to make the other test pieces into small charms.
The day starts at 10.00am and finishes at 4.00pm with a half hour break for lunch. Teas and coffees are provided. Bring your own lunch or buy locally. The workshop is run in my studio in Mortimer near Reading.

Intensive Watercolour Plein Air Weekend 8th & 9th August 2020 , 10am to 5:30pm each day. £200 for the weekend.
Spend a weekend in and around the village of Kintbury and the Kennet & Avon Canal where we will be painting ‘en plein air’, using watercolour in a loose and expressive way. You will get the opportunity to work both with Kevin Scully and Isabel Carmona and learn from their individual style. This is an opportunity to learn how to capture the essence of a variety of subject matter including water, landscape, trees and buildings.
There will be plenty of demonstrations covering viewpoints, composition and technique, plus the opportunity to experiment with reducing the scene to the bare minimum, whilst working in a spontaneous and exciting way.
This will be an intensive weekend so bring loads of energy to keep you going throughout the sessions which will be full of colour.
We will be working outdoors and meet each day at Kintbury station where there are public conveniences and public transport.
The schedule each day will be two sessions from 10 to 1 in the morning and from 2 to 5pm in the afternoon with an hour for lunch (bring your packed lunch) and a final 30 min at the end to share the works between the groups. There will be two groups and each group will work with either Kevin or Isabel and you’ll have the chance to work with both tutors (6 hours with each of them).
You will be provided with some materials to get you started but you’ll need to bring the following:
Watecolour paper – A4 o A3 sheet pad – Bockingford 300 gsm or similar Watercolours – what you have but at least three primary colours (e.g. French ultramarine, magenta and lemmon yellow) Palette for mixing the watercolours Brushes – again what you have but at least large/medium and small sizes for a variety of marks. Water and water container Seating stool or chair to sit on and be confortable. Paper towel or tissue to wipe brushes Don’t forget your own packed lunch and refreshments that you need during the day!
Workshop participant numbers will be capped at 10 people to retain small group numbers (we need a minimum of 6 attendees to run the course). Each tutor would therefore work with a group between 3 and 5 people.
Please note that we will be observing social distancing whilst trying to make this as normal a workshop as possible. Bring your own hand sanitiser and face mask in case you need them throughout the day. Do not attend if you feel unwell or have CoVid like symptoms. In any case we will be following the government guidance for meetings outdoors and if the guidance changes, we’ll be bound to observe it as necessary.

Hungerford Food & Artisan Market Due to the success of the July event, the Hungerford Food Festival Committee will hold two more Food & Artisan Markets on The Croft Field 10am to 1pm on Sunday 9 August and Sunday 6 September. They hope to be able to do one in October on Hungerford High Street on Sunday 4 October (instead of the normal food festival) but this will be confirmed nearer the time based on government regulations at that time.
Stalls confirmed so far include local meat, rapeseed oil, honey, liqueurs, pies, apple juice, scones, preserves, bread, cakes, plants and wooden chopping boards.
Committee chairwoman Penny Locke said: “We’re delighted to be able to hold outdoor markets to support suppliers and to enable people to get high-quality, local food.

Textured Coiled Vases Further Detail Debbie will guide you through the designing of your pots- showing you examples and images by potters, ancient and modern. She will demonstrate how to form the coils and how to join them together. Once your pots have been taken shape, Debbie will show you ways to use texture to decorate the clay surface, by using an array of tools, stamps, fabrics and plant material. The aim will be to make 2 medium size vessels.

Textual Art: Spiral Spin, One Into Four
Spiral Spin is the first chapter in Simon’s first book Textual Art. On this two-day workshop you get your chance to learn and use this technique on your own pieces of work along with a combination of techniques to create letterform using a variety of unconventional tools.
Further Detail As with all Simon’s workshops, you don’t need any calligraphic experience as this isn’t a workshop that relies on straight lines, neat handwriting or legibility, but it is also suitable for people with experience in the lettering arts that wish to ‘free-up’ their style. You will come away with four (hopefully) finished (or nearly finished) pieces of work along with a series of technique examples to help inspire future works.

After sell-out success in 2018 and 2019, the team behind the Waterperry Opera Festival is returning to historic Waterperry House this August with a new mini-festival programme of outdoor opera. With a history of outdoor performance Waterperry Opera Festival is uniquely placed to adapt and innovate in the uncertain current climate to create opera, theatre and music.

This August, Festival Music Director Bertie Baigent will conduct a costumed semi-staged performance of Mozart’s joyous masterpiece COSI FAN TUTTE, directed by Artistic Director Guy Withers, on the 15 th & 16 th August (5:30pm). Our cast will be made up of some of the UK’s most talented emerging singers, many of whom would have been performing with us in 2020 in our original programme, now postponed to 2021. Audiences are invited to attend the performances in socially distanced ‘pods’ on the front lawn of Waterperry House and enjoy a wonderful evening of opera.
Associate Artistic Director Rebecca Meltzer directs Jonathan Dove’s song-cycle ARIEL, based on Shakespeare’s character from The Tempest . In the beautiful surroundings of Waterperry Gardens, this intimate production offers an insight into Ariel’s world following the spirit’s release from Prospero’s command. Performances will take place at 2pm and 4pm on the 15 th & 16 th August. A film of the production will be streamed for those at home following the festival.
Box office is now open. Tickets for COSI FAN TUTTE will be £30 Full price / £10 Students & U18; tickets for Ariel are £8 Full Price, and FREE for Students & U18. When Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead with a look of horror still on his face and beside him the paw prints of a gigantic beast, Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson are summoned from Baker Street to investigate the crime and discover the truth about the Hound of the Baskervilles.

Gum Arabic Transfer Printing A quirky and fun printing technique using photocopies, paper printing plates and Gum Arabic. Easy to learn, quick to do and perfect for printing at home.
In this workshop we will be using the humble photocopy as a printing plate! Working from high-contrast black & white images you can turn your drawings and photos into handmade prints with a quirky ‘vintage’ feel to them. Gum Arabic transfer is also great for pen & ink style drawings – working directly onto polyester-paper plates with biros and Sharpie pens we will produce a series of prints from your drawings (don’t worry – you can trace images!) using just a spoon and a bit of elbow grease to transfer the print!
There will be lots of demos, step-by-step instruction & individual help in this fun and lively workshop.

The Corn Exchange welcomes you to our first socially distanced cultural event, a spectacular high wire and flying trapeze show performed outdoors by the acclaimed and energetic Gorilla Circus.
Watch exhilarating acts of aerial acrobatics as performers tumble and fly through the air high above your head on their towering outdoor structure.
Presented as a compered cabaret of jaw-dropping acts you are invited to sit with members of your household bubble on socially distanced tables to enjoy this shared circus experience.
Part of the venue’s regular annual outdoor arts programme of events, Gorilla Circus is presented by the Corn Exchange and 101 Outdoor Arts Creation Space and funded by Greenham Trust and Arts Council England.

Parking If you are driving you will be asked to show your printed ticket or e-ticket on arrival at the Business Park where you will be directed to your parking space, a short walk away from the show site.
Location The performance is located opposite Smart Hire on Greenham Business Park and a map will be sent out to you 2 days before the show.

Weather contingent Unfortunately due to the nature of the show this event cannot take place in bad weather and an email will be sent out to you if it is looking unlikely to happen.

Landscape Drawing for Teens A TWO DAY COURSE FOR TEENS WITH BRUCE BAMBER 25 and 26 August 2020 , 10am to 12 noon each day. £30 for the two day course.
This is an opportunity to try out a variety of drawing media to explore some of the techniques and possibilities of drawing landscapes.
The sessions will be outside (unless it’s raining) so clothing needs to be warm and not smart!
The meeting point for the first session will be at City Arts Newbury (10 Hampton Road) and we’ll walk a short distance to our drawing spot.
On the second day, we’ll meet directly on the day’s location – to be confirmed on day one.
Due to CoVid 19 we are unable to share materials so please bring drawing paper in loose leaf or pad form of varying quality if possible, preferably A3 size or larger and some combination of the following:
Soft pastels Oil pastels Charcoal Watercolour (plus brushes and water container) Good quality coloured pencils Good quality felt pens or markers Drawing inks (plus brushes or pens) Other coloured medium suitable for using outside. Don’t forget to bring any drinks or refreshments you’d like to have during the session.
Workshop participant numbers will be capped at 10 people to retain small group numbers (we need a minimum of 5 attendees to run the course).
Please note that we will be observing social distancing whilst trying to make this as normal a workshop as possible. Bring your own hand sanitiser and face mask to be available throughout the day. Do not attend if you, or members of your household, feel unwell or have CoVid-like symptoms. In any case we will be following the government guidance for children activities outdoors and if the guidance changes, we’ll be bound to observe it as necessary.

Figure Sculpture in a Day We will start with an introduction to the products before building a simple armature using everyday materials such as wire, cardboard & tin foil. Students will have a selection of plaster head styles to choose from for their sculpture, supplied by the tutor.

COVID-Secure Outdoor Cinema The outdoor cinema events will be run in line with the Government’s COVID-secure guidance, which enables venues to host large events where safety measures are adhered to. The Dinton Pastures team have implemented a series of precautions to ensure the wellbeing of guests.
In addition, to ensure guests can safely social distance, this year food or drinks vendors will not be permitted on site and instead attendees are asked to bring their own picnic.
The cinema screen has also moved to the plateau on Lea Heath, to give ample room for people to spread out. The Englefield 10k This race has it all. It’s TOUGH
Some gruelling hills, multi-terrain, some uneven ground
It’s in a classy setting… The route is entirely within the grounds of the Englefield Estate. Run through the deer park, woods, past the main house and lake, superb views and a great atmosphere.
Now in its 11th year, the Englefield 10k is organised by The Rotary Club of Reading Abbey and Tadley Runners with all profits going to charity. This year we’re supporting Age Concern/Dementia and JAC(Just Around the Corner) two very worthy causes.
